Mailing Lists |
Many users want a place to discuss TMG, FTST, and related
topics and the RootsWeb.com Mailing Lists are an excellent place for such
discussions with other users. The discussions range from beginner to
expert and often covers quite a range of information.
- If you are a subscriber to the free TMG
Mailing List and/or the free FTST Mailing List, then you already know it as a very helpful place for new and
old users alike. If you are not a subscriber, and have questions about
TMG or FTST, I recommend that you join us there, it is free. You may join by sending a
message to: TMG-L-request@rootsweb.com
or to FTST-L-request@rootsweb.com
with the text of the message being just the word: subscribe
--
do not include anything else in the text (you may place a Subject or not as you wish).
Be sure to turn off any signature that you may have. Lee Hoffman is the
administrator of the mailing list, but is just a user and is not employed by Wholly Genes.
The list was originally started about 1995 by Tim Doyle and administered by
him until 4 July 2001. (Thanks, Tim). For further information about TMG-L or for FTST-L
you may go to the Rootsweb
page describing the list.
- If you are receiving messages from TMG-L or FTST-L, you may be confused by some of the terms,
abbreviations, acronyms, shortcuts, and emoticons in many of the messages. Many of these
are somewhat "lazy" ways of saying things or of showing our feelings and emotions
on paper. Hopefully, the explanations on the
message helps
page can help you in understanding them. There is also a list more
closely related to TMG and it may be found on the Wholly Genes web site in
their FAQs
page.
- The archives page includes information about how to access
them for each list.
- General information of TMG-L
and TMG-D (FTST is similar).
- If you wish to send a message to TMG-L, just send a regular message to TMG-L@rootsweb.com.
It is suggested that you use an appropriate Subject to help other
subscribers find messages that they are interested in or organize their
personal archives. Also it is requested that you "turn-off"
any "Reply-To:" setting in your e-mail program (if you don't know
what this means - just forget it and someone on the list will offer to help if
the setting is on.
- If you wish to send a message to FTST-L, just send a regular message to
FTST-L@rootsweb.com.

- As each message is received by the Mailing List server, it is then
sent to each subscriber. Because this sometimes results in a large
number of messages and some subscribers do not wish a large number, you may
subscribe to the "Digest" version of TMG-L or FTST-L. For these
subscribers, messages are collected until either a certain number of
messages, the total size of those messages or a certain time of day and then
a single message is sent containing the content of those gathered messages.
The subscription procedure for the digest version is the same except the
"subscribe" message is sent to: TMG-D-request@rootsweb.com
or FTST-D-request@rootsweb.com.
Messages to the list in Digest mode should continue to be sent to TMG-L@rootsweb.com
or FTST-L@rootsweb.com.
