     Barnabus Marion O'Rear was also known as Belton Mate.⁶ He was called "Mote."² He was also known as Barbanus Mote.⁴ He was born on 6 May 1866 at Walker County, Alabama.^1,7 He was enumerated with Anderson O'Rear in 1870 on the Census at Walker County, Alabama.⁸ Barnabus Marion O'Rear married Mary Florence Wakefield on 15 November 1894 at Walker County, Alabama.^9,5,10,7 Barnabus Marion O'Rear was sheriff between 1896 and 1900 at Walker County, Alabama.⁷ He had a slight stroke in May 1903. In December 1903 Barnabus Marion O'Rear shot John M. Wilson in Winston County, Alabama. It was alleged that there was a $50 mortgage on property that Mote bought from Mr. Wilson of which Mote was unaware. On the day of the accident Mote allegedly went to get his $50 back. Prior to Mr. Wilson's death, he stated that Mote came to his residence with the intention of killing him and Mr. Wilson tried to seize the gun in order to save himself. Mote stated that he set the gun down and Mr. Wilson made a dash for it, both men seized the gun and the gun discharged during the scuffle. In January 1904 Mott turned himself in to the Sheriff of Winston County. He remained out of jail on bond until the trial in May 1907. After consultation between counsel for both the state and defense, and the relatives of the dead man, it was agreed that Mote enter a plea of guilty of manslaughter in the second degree and accept a fine of $500 and one day in jail.⁷ He died on 2 December 1908 at Jasper, Alabama, at age 42; when he was shot and killed in a barber shop by his brother-in-law, Tom Wakefield in a family dispute.^2,7,11 He was buried after 2 December 1908 at Pisgah Cemetery, Carbon Hill, Alabama.⁷

Mullins before 1901.^8,5 James Albert O'Rear appeared on the census of 1910 at Jasper, Alabama.⁹ He died on 27 January 1917 at Jasper, Alabama, at age 52.^2,3,5 He was buried after 27 January 1917 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Alabama.¹⁰

     Thomas O'Rear was born in June 1876.² He was enumerated with Anderson O'Rear in 1900 on the Census at Jasper, Alabama.³ Thomas O'Rear died on 3 July 1901 at age 25.⁴

     Georgia Mae O'Rear was also known as Georgie Mae O'Rear.⁴ She married Lumas Leonard Gibson.^3,1 Georgia Mae O'Rear was born on 22 September 1898 at Atlanta, Texas.^3,1,2 She died in 1972.²
