Judge Henry Reid Prewitt I was born on 2 June 1868 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was educated before 1885 at Kentucky University, Kentucky; Kentucky University is now Transylvania University.1 He resided in 1885 at Hill City, Kansas, of which was a founder.1 He married Katurah Cluke Greene, daughter of James W. Greene and Catherine Howard Oldham, on 14 August 1888 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.7,4 Judge Henry Reid Prewitt I was admitted to bar as an attorney in 1889 at Hill City, Kansas.1 He was Registrar of Deeds. between 1889 and 1890 at Graham County, Kansas.1 He married Lucy Ann Atkinson on 10 October 1891 at Hill City, Kansas.4 Judge Henry Reid Prewitt I resided in 1894 at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.1 He was president of the Exchange Bank for twenty-five years prior to his appointment as circuit judge.8 He married Katherine Chapman Grubbs on 15 July 1897 at First Christian Church, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Performed by Rev. W. T. Tibbs. According to the register, the witnesses were "a church full of people, for example: J. H. Hazelrigg and John E. Cooper."1,9,10,11,5,12,6 Judge Henry Reid Prewitt I was Insurance Commissioner of KY; appointed by Gov. Beckham. between 1904 and 1908 at Kentucky.1,8 He later served on the Democratic State Central Executive Committee as chairman. He was appointed as Circuit Judge of the 21st Judicial District (Montgomery, Bath, Menifee,and Rowan Counties) and was then elected after a hotly contended campaign against John G. Winn. After this, he was twice reelected without opposition. In a bitter contest in 1932 against D. B. Caudill for both Democratic and Republican nominations. Judge Caudill won both nominations with Judge Prewitt contesting the result. A long court proceeding followed with much evidence introduced on both sides of bribery with money and liquor. The Court of Appeals awarded the Democratic nomination to Judge Prewitt with Judge Caudill retaining the Republican nomination. The November election was a loss for Judge Prewitt as Judge Caudill carried the four counties of the district. on 24 November 1919 at Kentucky.1 He appeared on the census of 1 January 1920 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.13 He appeared on the census of 1 April 1930 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.14 He left a will at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, on 2 August 1932.15 Katherine Chapman Grubbs relinguished the receipt of what was given her in the will of Judge Henry Reid Prewitt I and taking only her dower dower and distributable share at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, on 2 August 1932.15,16 He died on 15 February 1939 at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, at age 70.1,17,5 His estate was probated on 18 February 1939 at Mt.
