John O'Rear was also known as Orrear.3 He was born circa 1713 at Stafford County, Virginia.1,4,5 He and Daniel (Lanson) O'Rear appeared on the tax list at Overwharton Parish, Virginia, in 1723 charged with 400 acres of land (probably the land grant owned by their father and uncle).6 John O'Rear witnessed the appearance on the tax list of William Thorn in 1724 at Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia, and was shown on the Tobacco Tenders List as 11 years old.7,8 John O'Rear resided in 1726/27 at Stafford County, Virginia.9 He was a voter in 1741 at Prince William County, Virginia.10 He married Hester Reno circa 1742 at Virginia.11 John sold part of his land before 1744 to Col. Thomas Harrison.12 John O'Rear wasshown on the tax list in 1759 at Fauquier County, Virginia, in the list created by Thomas Marshall.13

In 1761 John O'Rear and George Lathum were sued in trespass by Elizabeth Marshall, a neighbor of John O'Rear's (and probably related to the Elizabeth Marshall who married John O'Rear's grandson, Jesse) with the specification that they
“---- with force and arms, to wit with clubs strike, whip &c one negro man named Joe belonging to
the said plaintiff did assault beat would &c treat so that the aforesaid negro slave could not possibly
attend or perform the lawful business of his said mistress whereby the same remains undone and she
was deprived and lost the benefit and advantage of the labours of the said negro slave for a long time
----- they the said defendants then and those did to the said plaintiff against the peace of our soverign
Lord the now King & to the damage of the said plaintiff twenty pounds.”
The jury found for the plaintiff but apparently was unimpressed by the damage to the “King’s Peace” or Ms. Marshall’s loss of Joe’s services -- they awarded her one penny damages.14 He appeared on the tax list at Fauquier County, Virginia, in 1787.15 On 26 July 1792 John O'Rear was sent a letter by a neighbor, an unknown person , who reported suspicious actions by an overseer slave belonging to John O'Rear.14 John O'Rear made a deposition at Prince William County', Virginia, that he was at an unknown age as of 21 March 1796.16

John O'Rear was blind before 1805.17 He was a planter before 1805 at Prince William County, Virginia.11 He died in 1805 at Prince William County, Virginia.3

Hester Reno was also known as Renoe.2 She was also known as Malinda Madden.3,4,5 She was also known as Rennoe. She was also known as Mahala. She was called "Millie." She was born circa 1720 at Prince William County, Virginia.6 She may have been a Madden by birth and Renoe by a first marriage. Her parents may have been John Madden and Polly Thorne. However, according to E. C. O'Rear II, her father was Francis Reno with wife, (--?--) Bayliss and showing 9 children including one "Millie (Malinda?)". This could not be the case as they would have been of the same generation as she was. Anyway, research done by the Reno family indicates her name was Hester. However, they have not determined who her parents were. Conjecture by this writer is that Hester or Malinda or Millie may have been a sister to Francis Reno and a daughter of Lewis Reno. She married John O'Rear, son of John O'Rea and Mary Peck, circa 1742 at Virginia.7 Hester Reno died after 18 February 1763 at Virginia.6
