     Lena M. Eades was also known as Leanah M.² She was born in 1825 at Kentucky.³ She married William O'Rear, son of Benjamin O'Rear and Elizabeth Irwin, on 17 November 1846 at Morgan County, Illinois.¹ Lena M. Eades was enumerated with William O'Rear in 1850 on the Census at Morgan County, Illinois.³ Lena M. Eades married William Thomas on 16 May 1878 at Fleming County, Kentucky.²

     John W. Crum Sr. married Frances Delia O'Rear, daughter of William O'Rear and Mariah T. Sawyer, on 29 May 1879 at Morgan County, Illinois.²

     Ann Capitola Haggerty married Franklin O'Rear, son of George O'Rear and Sarah Heslip, on 18 February 1885 at Morgan County, Illinois.¹

     Francis M. Morton was born on 8 October 1841 at Morgan County, Illinois.¹ He married Maria Louisa O'Rear, daughter of George O'Rear and Sarah Heslip, on 27 January 1863 at Morgan County, Illinois.^2,1

     William Thomas married Lena M. Eades on 16 May 1878 at Fleming County, Kentucky.¹

     Hester Ann Matthews was born on 24 February 1845 at Jessamine County, Kentucky.^1,3 She married David Thornton Dean, son of Thomas Holeman Dean and Malinda Rowland, on 27 November 1866 at Woodford County, Kentucky.^1,4,3,2 Hester Ann Matthews Hester Ann Matthew's mother, Margaret Ann Dixon, was the daughter of Jesse D. Dixon, and Hester Elizabeth Cleveland Dixon, of Jessamine County, Ky. Margaret's sister Elizabeth "Belle" Jane Dixon, married Samuel T. Hampton.

From Woodford County, Kentucky a group of settlers came to settle the Ashland Community, or close to it, three or four miles east of McPherson in 1872 and 1873. Jerry Dean, Charles Dean, the Dixons and Matthews were in that group.

Mrs. Dean says she will never forget her first view of the country-side near her new home in April, 1873. A prairie fire had burned all the old grass sometime before. The new grass shoots were bright green and the rolling plains in every direction looked as if they were covered with a green velvet that rippled only slightly in the wind.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean built a frame house although most of their neighbors had sod ones. It was a two roomed house, set high on a foundation. Around the foundation they stacked layers of sod to hold it firm and on those Mrs. Dean planted bright colored flowers. Eleven people lived in that house till winter time, when many of them moved to homes of their own.

That winter the Deans dug a well. A boy in the neighborhood offered to dig it for them for a shot gun Mr. Dean had brought from Kentucky with him. So they lowered him into the hole day after day, in spite of a raging blizzard, and he dug in the bottom of the hole, and Mr. Dean hauled the dirt up with a windlass. When it was deep enough they walled it with grey rock hauled from Gypsum Creek. When Mr. Dean pulled him out of the well, he had blankets to wrap in, because he was always warm and perspiring in the bottom of the well, and the change to the blizzard above ground was marked.

Once J. R. Dean, F. B. Webster, and another man started to walk from McPherson to King City. They were caught in a blizzard and forced to stay with the Deans all night. That evening the older people sat around the fire of broom corn or green cottonwood, which had been dried in the oven, and talked of the prospects of the future. The children played in the bed that had been curtained off from the rest of the room, so they might keep warm, too.

Taking proper care of those children was not always an easy task. When thunder storms came up there was always a sense of insecurity from the great flashes of lightning over the bare plains. Mrs. Dean remembers nights when her husband was gone to Salina for provisions, and she was alone with the children in a thunder storm. At first she hung blankets over the doors and windows to keep the blinding flashes out. Then she saw that the children were becoming as afraid of the lightning as she was, so she stopped that and steeled herself to endure it.

     Dr. George Rowland Dean M.D. was born on 2 July 1871 at Woodford County, Kentucky.^1,3 He graduated circa 1890 at McPherson College, Kansas, with a Member of first graduating class.^1,4 He graduated in 1894 at American Medical College, St. Louis, Missouri.^1,5 He was Medical Doctor in 1894.¹ He married Nellie J. Cheney on 8 November 1894 at Windom, Kansas, Married by A.B. Hestwood (?), Minister.^1,6 Dr. George Rowland Dean M.D. appeared on the census of 1900; McPherson County, Kansas, Blair Street, Castle Township, Windom City, enumeration district 132, sheet 2, Dwelling 28, family number 30.¹ He Licensed to practice medicine in Kansas. Started practice of medicine at Windom. in 1901.^1,4 He married Etta Catherine Moomaw on 22 March 1904 at McPherson, Kansas, Married by: J. N. Edwards, Minister of the Gospel.^1,7,2 Dr. George Rowland Dean M.D. Member of the Kansas state board of medical examiners for thirty years. between 1920 and 1950.^1,8 He was McPherson county health officer, at time of death. before 1950.^1,4 He died on 28 February 1950 at Wichita, Kansas, at age 78; Cerebral Hemorrhage.^1,9 He was buried on 3 March 1950 at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas; Dr. G. Dr. G. R. Dean, 78, of 515 East Marlin Street, a pioneer doctor of McPherson County, died yesterday evening at 5:15 o'clock at the Wesley Hospital, Wichita. He had been in failing health the last several months. At the time of his death Dr. Dean was the county health officer. He had served on the Kansas state board of medical examiners for the last 30 years. Dr. Dean was licensed to practice in Kansas in 1901 and started to practicing at Windom. He was a member of the first graduating class at McPherson College. Dr. Dean was born July 2, 1871, in Versailles County, Kentucky, the son of David Thornton Dean and Hettie Ann Mathes Dean. He came to McPherson with his parents when he was 2 years old. He was married to Miss Etta C. Moowaw, on March 22, 1904, at McPherson, and Mrs. Dean is one of the survivors. Dr. Dean was a member of the Baptist Church. Other survivors include three sons, Dr. Charles D. Dean, Billings, Mont.. Dr. George M. Dean, Boulder, Colo., and Dr. Galen R. Dean, McPherson; five grandchildren, Dudley D. Dean, Billings, Loren R. Dean and George D. Dean, both of McPherson, and Ann Weymoth Dean and George Harrison Dean, both of Boulder. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Quiring Chapel with Rev. Ross Wood, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating. The time of the funeral has not been announced but it will be announced later by the funeral home. The body will lie in state Thursday evening at Quirings, from 7 to 9 o'clock. A PIONEER PHYSICIAN DIES

Dr. G. R. Dean a Member of Board of Examiners 30 Years. McPherson, Kas., March 1, (AP) Dr. G. R. Dean, 78 pioneer physician of McPherson County, died last night at a hospital here after an ilness of several months. Dr. Dean was county health officer and a member of the Kansas state board of medical examiners the last thirty years. Survivors include the widow and three sons, Dr. Charles D. Mrs. G. R. Dean, 86, of 515 East Marlin Street, died at 5 a.m. today at the McPherson Hospital. She had been in failing health for the last several months. Mrs. Dean was born on March 22, 1872, in Virginia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Moomaw. She was married to Dr. G.R. Dean on March 22, 1904, in McPherson. Dr. Dean died on Feb. 28, 1950. She was a mamber of the Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Dr. Charles D. Dean, Eugene, Ore., Dr. George M. Dean, Boulder, Colo., and Dr. Galen R. Dean, Butte, Mont., five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. William Dick, Pasadena, Calif. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Quiring Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Fancher of the Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call at Quirings Friday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.      Dr. Galen Royer Dean D.D.S. was an orthodontist.¹ He was born on 10 October 1906 at McPherson, Kansas.^1,3 He graduated in 1929 with a Kansas City Western Dental College - School of Dentistry - Lincoln and Lee University.¹ He married Bonnie Dee McMurray on 27 June 1930 at Salina, Kansas.^1,4,2 Dr. Galen Royer Dean D.D.S. died on 20 January 1987 at Ronan, Montana, at age 80.^1,5

     Bonnie Dee McMurray was Teacher, Musician and Songwriter.¹ She was born on 28 November 1907 at McPherson, Kansas.^1,3 She graduated on 25 May 1928 at The Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia, Kansas.¹ She married Dr. Galen Royer Dean D.D.S., son of Dr. George Rowland Dean M.D. and Etta Catherine Moomaw, on 27 June 1930 at Salina, Kansas.^1,4,2 Bonnie Dee McMurray died on 11 March 2001 at Ronan, Montana, at age 93.¹ She was buried on 31 December 2002 at McPherson Cemetery, Block 25, Lot 7, McPherson, Kansas.¹

     Joan Frances Yrigoyen was born on 30 May 1938 at Rock Springs, Wyoming.^1,3 She married Loren Royer Dean, son of Dr. Galen Royer Dean D.D.S. and Bonnie Dee McMurray, on 16 August 1956 at Jackson, Wyoming.^1,4,2

     Erma O'Rear was born on 24 January 1884 at Clay Township, Missouri.¹ She was enumerated with Peter Everett O'Rear in 1900 on the Census at Slater, Missouri.² Erma O'Rear married Turner W. Reid circa 1912.³ Erma O'Rear witnessed the New Tag of Marvin Luther O'Rear on 9 September 1917 at Kansas City, Missouri.⁴

     Ethell O'Rear was born in April 1877 at Missouri.^1,2,3 She was enumerated with Peter Everett O'Rear in 1880 on the Census at Clay, Missouri.⁴ Ethell O'Rear was enumerated with Peter Everett O'Rear in 1900 on the Census at Slater, Missouri.³

     Bertha Leach Botts was born in 1891 at Bethel, Kentucky. She married Ene V. Brother on 29 October 1912 at Lexington, Kentucky.

     Emily Willson was born circa 1849 at Kentucky.¹ She was enumerated with Omar Willson on 1 June 1860 on the Census at Bath County, Kentucky.¹

     Nancy Willson was born on 7 May 1853 at Bath County, Kentucky.^1,2 She was enumerated with Omar Willson on 1 June 1860 on the Census at Bath County, Kentucky.¹ Nancy Willson married Richard Bigstaff on 9 April 1872.² Nancy Willson died on 7 April 1876 at Sharpsburg, Kentucky, at age 22; due to tuberculosis.²

     Mayme (?) was born circa 1882 at Kentucky.¹ She married Robert M. Barnes before 1930.¹ Mayme (?) was enumerated with Robert M. Barnes on 1 April 1930 on the Census at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.¹

     Andrew B. Hazelrigg Jr. was born on 16 June 1919 at Kentucky.^1,2 He was enumerated with Andrew Hazelrigg on 1 April 1930 on the Census at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.¹ Andrew B. Hazelrigg Jr. died in April 1983 at age 63.²

     Marion Franklin Eubank was called "Brother."² He was born on 21 June 1924 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.^2,1 He was enumerated with Richard Greene Eubank on 1 April 1930 on the Census at Sideview, Kentucky.¹ Marion Franklin Eubank married Edna Lucille Myers.³ Marion Franklin Eubank died on 29 March 2004 at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, at age 79.⁴ He was buried on 1 April 2004 at Machpelah Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.⁴
