The unit was attached to the Department of East Tennessee, then the Department of Western Virginia and East Tennessee. It skirmished in various conflicts in the mountainous region of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. Early in 1865 it disbanded. The field officers were Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Johnson and Major O.S. MacNeill with Anna Duerson as witness.^4,5 Hazel Terhune Middleton was enumerated with Edward Clay O'Rear in 1910 on the Census at Franklin County, Kentucky.⁶ Hazel Terhune Middleton died on 12 January 1961 at San Francisco, California, at age 72; Eleanor Peavy has that she died in Santa Barbara.³ She was buried on 17 January 1961 at San Francisco National Cemetery, Presidio, San Francisco, California.⁷

     Erasmus O'Rear was born in 1828 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.^1,2 He was enumerated with Daniel O'Rear on 1 June 1850 on the Census at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.² Erasmus O'Rear died on 3 September 1858 at Montgomery County, Kentucky. He was buried after 3 September 1858 at Montgomery County, Kentucky.

     Daniel O'Rear was a farmer.¹ He was born in 1758 or 1759 at Fauquier County, Virginia.^{5,2,6,7,8,9,10,11} He was in military service for three months in Capt. William Blackwell's Company, of Col. Patrick Henry's Virginia Regiment in 1776 at Williamsburg, Virginia.^7,9 He was in military service as a private in both the Virginia militia and in the regular army between October 1776 and February 1780 at Fauquier County, Virginia.^12,13 He was in military service as a Private in Capt. John Ashley's Company of Col. Mercer's and Weedon's 3rd Virginia Regiment between 1777 and 1779 at Williamsburg, Virginia.⁷ He married Susan Gooch between 1778 and 1779 at Wake County, North Carolina.^{14,15,16,17,18} Daniel O'Rear was in military service for three months as a Private in Capt. Richard Allen's Company of Col. Hampton's Regiment on 1 September 1779 at Wilkes County, North Carolina.^7,9 County court records at Wilkes County, North Carolina, circa 1779 contain a restraining order issued against John O'Rear and his son, Daniel O'Rear for threatening bodily harm against a neighboring planter. The family moved to Georgia soon afterward.⁴ He was in military service for three months as orderly sergeant in Capt. John G. Lowman's Company of Col. William's Regiment when he was captured in the fall of Charleston and paroled home. During his parole, he volunteered in Capt. Martin Gamble's Company of Col. Cleveland's Regiment for five or six weeks fighting the Tories. in 1780 at Charleston, South Carolina.⁷ He appeared on the census of 1800 at Ashe County, North Carolina.¹⁰ He received a pension for service in the regular Army and the Militia after 1834 at Fauquier County, Virginia.¹⁹ He resided in September 1838 at Bledsoe County, Tennessee.⁷ He resided in 1839 at Chattooga County, Georgia.⁷ He died circa 1859 at Summerville, Georgia; Wanda Lowry has 1839-1840.^{5,2,6,20,9,21} He was buried after 1859 at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Trion, Georgia.²²

     Benjamin O'Rear was born in 1777 at Virginia.^4,5 He married Miriam Lloyd circa 1795 at Hancock County, Georgia.^1,5,6 Benjamin O'Rear left a will at Hancock County, Georgia, on 13 November 1803.⁶ He died after 13 November 1803 at Hancock County, Georgia.¹

     John O'Rear resided at White Plains, Georgia.⁴ He was a farmer.⁴ He was born before 1775 at Fauquier County, Virginia.⁴ He married Susan (?) before 1802.^1,3 John O'Rear was in military service during the War of 1812 in the 3rd Regiment (Few's) of the Georgia Militia.^6,7 He died circa 1850 at Hancock County, Georgia.⁸

     William O'Rear was also known as William Sterling.^4,5 He was born in 1777 at Fauquier County, Virginia.² He married Esther Kelly before 1801 at Talladega, Alabama.² William O'Rear was in military service during the War of 1812 as a major in Russell's Separate Battalion, Mounted Gunman of the Tennessee Volunteers.^2,6 He was a cotton farmer at Franklin County, Tennessee.² He was called "Major Bill."² William O'Rear and William Durham Kelly built and owned the first cotton gin in the county at Franklin County, Tennessee.² William O'Rear married Nancy (?) on 8 March 1824 at Sumner County, Tennessee.^7,8 William O'Rear was elected sheriff in 1841 at Franklin County, Tennessee.² He left a will at Franklin County, Tennessee, in 1849.¹ He appeared on the census of 1850 at Franklin County, Tennessee.⁹ He died after 1850.^2,9

     Miriam Lloyd was born on 17 September 1777 at Henry County, Virginia.² She married Benjamin O'Rear, son of John O'Rear and Sarah (?), circa 1795 at Hancock County, Georgia.^3,4,2 Miriam Lloyd married William Durham Kelly on 7 August 1806 at Clarke County, Georgia.^5,2 Miriam Lloyd died on 17 October 1850 at Winston County, Mississippi, at age 73.^5,2

     Susan (?) was also known as Sarah (?).^3,4 She was born in 1782.¹ She married John O'Rear, son of John O'Rear and Sarah (?), before 1802.^3,4 Susan (?) was enumerated with William Addison O'Rear in 1850 on the Census at Hancock County, Georgia.⁵

     Esther Kelly was also known as Easter. She was born on 15 January 1771 at Warren County, North Carolina.¹ She married William O'Rear, son of John O'Rear and Sarah (?), before 1801 at Talladega, Alabama.¹ Esther Kelly died on 4 November 1823 at Franklin County, Tennessee, at age 52.¹

     Benjamin Starky O'Rear was born on 19 January 1807 at Hancock County, Georgia.³ He married Margaret Sublett on 4 February 1830 at Winchester, Tennessee.³ Benjamin Starky O'Rear appeared on the census of 1850 at Franklin County, Tennessee.⁴ He died on 4 October 1856 at Winchester, Tennessee, at age 49.³ He was buried after 4 October 1856 at North Carolina.⁵
