(Note: Applicable to all version of TMG)

Listed below are the Source Templates designed by Wholly Genes for the UK edition of TMG. Each category shows the template for Full Footnote (FF), Short Footnote (SF), and Bibliography (B) with the appropriate Source Elements. As noted in statements by Wholly Genes, the templates should be reviewed along with the examples given in standard style manuals including Elizabeth Shown Mills, Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co, 1997) and others. The user should then make changes as thought best for the particular source document being referenced.

Remember that the templates are Wholly Genes interpretation of the various categories listed and may or may not always fit a particular source. So, if a template doesn’t work the way you wish, try using a different template or modify one to fit yours needs.

Also remember that while these formats cover most sources and media they don't cover every situation. You may want to create custom Source Categories. In creating custom Source Categories, it is recommended that you review the examples given in Mills' Evidence! and follow the principles given there.

If you wish to download and import a Custom Source Category file with these Source Categories, click here. Then in TMG, select Tools=>Options from the top menu to display the System Configuration Screen. Be sure the Custom Source Categories option is selected and click on the Configure button to display the Custom Source Categories window. Click on the Import button to display the Import Custom Source Categories window. Enter the name of the file to be imported (UKSrcCat.CSC) with the path (use the Search button to help find it). Be sure that you select the Append Import Mode and click on the OK button. Click on the OK button to leave the Custom Source Categories window and again click on the OK button to leave the System Configuration screen. The new Source Categories will be available for use like your other Source Categories.
