O'Rear appeared on the census of 1910 at Walker County, Alabama.3 The O’Rears have long been tillers of the soil, and owners of the land they tilled. They always had great regard for conservation long before it became popular and would refuse to do anything that would hurt their land. Martin A. O'Rear was no exception to this family trait. At one time, he owned a large amount of land in Walker County and was offered $50,000 by a lumber company for the timber on a small part of it but he would not sell it, and his children at the time were going to school barefooted.4 He died on 18 November 1934 at Jasper, Alabama, at age 69 due to cirrhosis of the liver.1,5 He was buried after 18 November 1934 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Alabama.5
